Adelaide/Team Apollo
The end of the Great Ocean Road brought us (after a 9 hour bus ride) to the South Australian city of Adelaide, a quaint little city about the size of Edmonton. We arrived about 5am and after some random walking around and a well deserved shower, we met up with Anna, a true Aussie chick who's family was generous enough to put us up for the week. Their house was in the hills surrounding Adelaide and came complete with geese, a cow, a possum, an 80 year old talking cockatoo, poteroos (miny kangaroos) and two pet kangaroos - "Roo"and "Fergus". Needless to say we were quite happy to get our first taste of the "true Australia" outside of the hostel lifestyle. We spent the week learning about Australian Rules Football(footy), meeting Anna's friends, going on pub crawls, eating cheap chinese food, going to the beach and eating some good home cooked meals (go corn on the cob!!!). We both really enjoyed our time there, cheers to Anna, Elise, Sam, Louis, the aminamals and "the parents" for letting us into their wonderful home and putting up with two Canadian boys.
From Adelaide we decided to return to the great city of Sydney in search of the all mighty dollar. But the story does not end there, the 1500kim trip from Adelaide to Sydney would spawn one of the most amazing teams that had been seen since the '72 series ended...The birth of "Team Apollo"! Comprised of Jordan, Matt, now good friend Bob and new German extraordinaire Simon, we were a four man recking crew. With a nearly free rented Apollo van, three days, 1500km, a lot of great tunes and nothing but piss and vinegar we were sent on our mighty journey. Although none of us had ever drove a standard van on the other side of the road before we were all confident that death would not be our eternal fate. Day one comprised of team Si-bob with Simon's hardcore driving, Bob's many stalls and some guitar playing in the back of the van. Day two team Jord-att took over, covering 800km with only Incubus, Tool and others to guide our way. By Day three team Apollo entered the city of Sydney with a true Aussie road trip to their name. The experience will not be forgotten.
Upon arriving in Sydney we moved in to a flat with two friends from Ontario; Julie and Kerry, during that month work was done, many movies watched, goon was drank, the Oilers incredible cup run began, Matt lit his face on fire and that's about it. But then we heard of a little country called New Zeland...
